About Mozart:
Born and baptized as Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart.
In his last years Mozart had a mysterious commission. He had to write a requiem for an anonymous person who would pay him princely for the music.
Although Mozart was very busy making his opera The Magic Flute, he could not afford to say no to the order. And thus he went into his life’s last and worst stage.
During the work with the requiem, Mozart’s poor health was even worse. He was just 35 years old but felt he would soon die. He suffered obsessive thoughts that he had been poisoned and that a Requiem would be a fair death for himself. Until a few days before his death, Mozart wrote the Requiem. He was never finished – only 2/3 of the music was written when he died on the 5th of december 1791.
His widow Constanze asked some of Mozart’s friends to complete the Requiem. The first two sections could easily be completed, and Mozart’s friends performed them at Mozart’s funeral. But to Constanze could get paid the fee, should be complete requiem.
Mozart’s pupil Süssmayr was the only one who dared to try to finish it, although he was not a skilled composer. How Mozart himself would have completed Requiem, one can only guess. Several musicologists have tried to improve Süssmayrs contributions.
Others believe that the result after all can not get closer than the original plan, and Mozart’s survivors found this to be the best solution.
Mozart’s Requiem is one of his finest and most poignant pieces of music. It has set an unattainable high standard for posterity, and it has created countless myths about Mozart’s death. But who was it that ordered the Requiem of Mozart poor?
Researchers have found out that it was an eccentric count, who pretended he was a composer. Every year on his deceased wife’s death he ordered, therefore, a piece of music in the city, which he played at his castle, under his own name.?
